Get The Most Out Of Summer

hints-and-tips

Summer can be a busy time of the year, there always seems to be more events and things to get done. But it is also a beautiful time of year to enjoy the warmer weather and longer days. To make sure this busy time of year doesn’t impact your weight loss success, but instead supports it, here are some tips to maximize your Summer and enjoy the beautiful days.

Get active – make the most of the warmer weather and longer days and get active outside. It doesn’t matter whether you have time to add activity in the morning, afternoon or evening, it’s just important that you add activity where you can. Of course you have walking, jogging, bike riding, boot camps etc. but why not try something different this summer – rock climbing, abseiling, kayaking or paddle boarding. For some great tips to maintain your activity over summer outdoor activities see here.

Try some fresh new recipes – Summer provides a range of seasonal fruit and vegetables that are only available for a short time so enjoy them while you can. Keep things fresh and avoid fruit boredom by adding the following to your menu – Cherries, Nectarines, Peaches, Plums, Mangos, Apricots, Lychees etc. Click here for some recipe inspiration.

Eat outdoors – Get out of the office or house and eat outside. This will not only allow you to enjoy the sunshine (Vitamin D) but also ensure you move! Walk to a park or an area by water – doesn’t matter how close it is, walking even 100 meters is better than sitting at your desk or in the lunch room. After eating, walk around the block and then go back to the office, ensure you take your water bottle too!

Stay hydrated – Water intake is never more important than during the hot summer months. Water is essential for life as every cell, tissue and organ in our body contains water. Water regulates your body temperature, which is always handy during Summer, and in turn hydrates your skin to help give you a summer glow. Being low on fluids can lead your body to confuse thirst with hunger – you may not be hungry, you might be thirsty. It may be tempting to reach for extra alcoholic drinks during Summer – this adds substantial kilojoules, so try and get creative with free beverage ideas instead. Here are some great tips to keep your water tasty.

Set a Goal – setting not only long term goals but also short term goals is a great way to motivate yourself during weight loss. What is your goal this week? What is your goal by the end of the month? What is your goal by winter? Remember that goals shouldn’t just be about weight on the scales, here are some great tips for non-scale victories.
