The benefits of having a routine at home

hints-and-tips

We’ve all needed to be at home more than usual in recent times, and there are lots of ways to make that time productive.

Keep to a routine

To get the most out of your home, set a new routine for yourself. This helps to break each day into smaller chunks that have purpose – and when we feel a sense of purpose, we feel proud of ourselves at the end of the day.

To set some structure into your time at home, try:

  • Getting up at a regular time each day
  • Writing the things that you want to achieve into your diary
  • Getting dressed and ready for your day
  • Eating healthy foods at regular meal times

Think about what needs to be done

How often have you said, ‘I’ll get to that when I have more time’? Well, now is your chance!

All those jobs that have been niggling at you, but never made it to the top of the to-do list, are ready and waiting. Try cleaning out your wardrobe, researching charities to support, cooking those new recipes, or learning a new skill.

Exercise each day

Getting some movement into each day is important for your physical and mental health.

That exercise might be outside on a walking path, in a park, or in your own backyard. But if you can’t get outside, try doing an online exercise session: from gentle yoga classes to active HIIT sessions, there are online classes available that suit everyone.

Connect with others

It’s important to stay connected with your friends and family when you’re spending lots of time at home.

That’s because connection is vital for your mental health and sense of wellbeing.

Make an effort to call or video chat with a friend each day, so you can talk about how your day is going and make each other laugh.
