What Is Circadian Rhythm?

hints-and-tips

Did you know that what you eat AND when you eat are important for weight loss?

Our new Rapid Results program leverages innovative science involving the body clock’s circadian rhythm to help you lose weight faster. But what is your circadian rhythm and how does it work?

Throughout the day your body’s cells are all hard at work metabolising, or managing, complex chemical processes throughout your body. This metabolism process has a predictable curve, ramping up in the morning and gently tapering off towards the evening. In the peak period, your body is busy digesting food for the energy needed to use as fuel for all of your daily activities. By late afternoon and into the evening, your metabolism is still active but not as efficiently as earlier in the day. The Rapid Results meal plan is aligned with this curve, with more kilojoules when your body is burning the most energy.

Balancing these periods of light and dark or rejuvenation and nourishment; helps to leverage your natural circadian rhythm and comes with many health benefits:

1. Helps regulate metabolism – Being in sync with your natural circadian rhythm supports your health by regulating your metabolism and supporting your body’s ability to burn kilojoules more efficiently.

2. Helps support blood sugar control – Consuming more kilojoules earlier in the day can help improve your blood sugar control. Naturally, insulin becomes higher at night – so if you eat a lot at night you’re more likely to store this as body fat rather than burning it off in the day when your body is burning kilojoules most effectively.

3. Helps regulate appetite hormones –Hormones such as insulin and leptin play an important role in weight management and when you are in sync with your circadian rhythm, your hormones have the ability to support you in best managing your weight.

4. Enhances the effectiveness of weight management – It’s not just what and how much you eat, but when you eat that’s also important for weight loss. Eating less at night and more during the day allows the body to stay in sync with its natural circadian rhythm, and burn kilojoules more effectively.
